U Matter Video Contest Rules

Eligibility

No purchase necessary. The Contest is open to all currently enrolled Appalachian Students.  By entering, you agree to these Official Contest Rules and the decisions of the Appalachian Fund committee representatives, which shall be final and binding in all respects.

Entry

Submissions will be accepted beginning March 18th – April 18th through 5pm.  Each completed and signed entry form satisfies the express written permission requirement allowing the University to promote, copy, and distribute the entries for contest promotion.  All entries are the property of the University.

Video Submission

  1. Must have a complete entry form with each video submission.  Download application from website or pick up form from contact tables in Student Union. Videos must not be longer than 3 minutes and submitted in English.
  2. All entries (submissions) must be submitted via email by sending your files to mountaineerfund@gmail.com. or and received on (i.e.: CD, video tape, etc) or at the Student Union Contact table during the Contest Period.
    1. To enter, submit/upload your video via the website. The video recording must be in a WMV, MOV, MPEG or AVI format, with a maximum screen size of 320 x 240, and a transfer bit rate of no more than 300 kbits/sec.
    2. Submit your disc, DV videotape, etc at the contact tables in the student union
  3. Content limitations: Entries that are lewd, obscene, pornographic, disparaging of Appalachian State University or of another nonprofit organization or otherwise contain objectionable material may be disqualified and/ or subject to an official charge of misconduct under the Code of Student Conduct. 

Judging

Each video will be judged based on how they best answer the question “What do you think the Appalachian Community should do to make the campus a better place for all students in 2008?”  The qualified panel of judges will be made up of a mixture of student and staff members at ASU. Judging of videos will begin April 16th and will be completed by April 18th. 

Selection of Winners

Round 1: Each eligible submission will be evaluated by the judging panel.  The panel will select 10 entries as finalist for the video competiton.

Round 2: The ten finalists submissions will be revealed on the Web Site about/ on April 21st and ending on April 28th (Voting Period).  At the close of the voting period, the Submission that receives the most votes will be declared the Grand Prize Winner. In the event of a tie, the judging panel will decide the winner based on their scoring in the first round. The Grand Prize Winner will be announced at the U Matter Benefit Concert on April 30th, 2008.

Prizes

All benefit concert proceeds will be donated towards the “cause” featured in the winning video submissions.  The contest sponsor (Appalachian Fund) will also award the top three contest participants with complimentary prizes for their participation.
