The Appalachian Fund
Engaging qualified students in a rich, academically challenging community has been the primary mission of Appalachian for the past 109 years. The Appalachian Fund provides essential operating support for the university through the collective support of alumni, parents, friends, students, faculty, and staff. With the help of our Appalachian Family, the university can ensure that our students are afforded opportunities for scholarship and personal growth that are not covered by tuition and fees alone.
Appalachian Fund Totals
Gifts to the Appalachian fund ensures that Appalachian can continue providing the scholarships, faculty development, innovative academic programs and opportunities outside the classroom that make Appalachian a special place. This is our highest goal in five years and we are well on the way to reaching it – your support will impact a student today and help us reach our goal.
Alumni Participation Rates
Appalachian’s alumni participation rate (APR) is 5.2%. In the UNC System, we rank sixth in APR. UNC Chapel Hill ranks first at 19%. Appalachian should be number one in alumni participation because our alumni are the most loyal and passionate you can find. We need 18,000 Appalachian alumni to give a gift of any size, which would increase our APR to 20%.
Why is APR important?
College guidebooks such as U.S. News & World Report use alumni giving participation rates as the single measure to rate alumni satisfaction when ranking colleges. In addition, when making major gifts to colleges and universities, corporations and foundations put great emphasis on the APR because it is an excellent measure of the Appalachian experience. Your gift today might mean millions in private support for Appalachian in the future.
